I’m using this platform to write about decisions I make about our small business.
Fingerfood Jewelry is a two man operation where we make jewelry out of polymer clay.
We spend a considerable amount of time on each piece we make. This is a great selling point however it does make the process of making a lot longer.
My goal is to build an online presence. Even signing up to Tumblr was a part of reaching this goal.
I want to build the brand so we reach the first page of Google for “food jewelry”.
My strategy is as follows:
Build a Tumblr Page - follow people and network
Build a Squidoo Page - Follow people, earn points, create back links
Interact More on Twitter - I haven’t really used Twitter much in the past. But legendary Glen from Viperchill regards it as his most important social media tool (over facebook). I really want to try this.
Create a youtube account - post a tutorial, post an introduction to our business
Facebook Ads - Halloween is coming up, so we are celebrating with Jack-o-Latern pumpkin ring. I feel the Facebook ad market for Halloween will be quite competitive so I am not sure how successful this campaign will be. I will post my results.
Facebook Ads 2 - We have recently moved to Canada. Canadians LOVE poutine. They sell it on every corner from every fast food restaurant (in Montreal anyway). I have a made a Poutine Ring and am really eager to try out Facebook’s Geographical targeting. If we can target those just in Montreal we can build a local following. Montreal is dense with university students (it has 3-4 universities in this small city) and they just happen to be our biggest customers.
Launch a mobile site - Create a mobile website for Fingerfood Jewelry that has all our pictures, and if possible, offers a shop. I’m not too fussed if the shop doesn’t eventuate.
Social media campaign - Using a wordpress plugin that a user automatically shares via Twitter and Facebook once they put in their email to get a coupon/prize.
The benefits of this is I get their email address for furture email marketing, word spreads via their facebook, Google LOVES social media presence. If I can include my keywords in this plug in I think it could do well.
Craiglist - This is an odd option. Doesn’t look that professional, but I’m considering it. I have thought about this because Craigslist is so massive here in Montreal. Everyone uses it. However, most people use it to find a bargain. I don’t think our jewelry is that expensive, but it certainly is unique and fun which the craigslister may jump on.
By networking this way I am able to build organic backlinks - which in Google’s eyes gives my website trust and authority. With that I can climb the ranks of the search engine results page.
